SRS & Airbag Systems | Voltcheck Motors
Modern SRS and airbag systems include multiple control modules, crash sensors, airbags, seat-belt pretensioners, occupancy sensors and communication circuits.
Voltcheck Motors provides professional diagnostics, electronic repair, control module services, programming and supported crash-related solutions for SRS and airbag systems.
We diagnose the complete system before recommending module replacement or other repairs.
SRS & Airbag Diagnostics
We diagnose airbag and restraint system faults including:
- Airbag warning lights
- SRS fault codes
- Airbag control module faults
- Crash sensor faults
- Seat-belt pretensioner faults
- Occupancy sensor faults
- Passenger airbag system faults
- Steering wheel airbag and clock spring faults
- Wiring and connector problems
- Power and ground faults
- Communication faults
- Problems following accident repairs
- Faults after module or component replacement
Diagnosis may include full system scanning, live-data analysis, electrical testing, wiring checks and control module assessment.
Airbag Control Module Services
We provide diagnostics and supported electronic services for SRS and airbag control modules.
Services may include:
- SRS module diagnostics
- Electronic fault assessment
- Module communication testing
- Original module data backup
- Software and data recovery
- Replacement module programming
- Coding and configuration
- Module initialisation
- Synchronisation where required
Support depends on the vehicle, module type and condition of the original unit.
Crash Data Services
Following a collision, some SRS control modules store crash-event data that may prevent normal system operation even after damaged restraint components have been replaced.
Where technically appropriate and supported, we provide:
- SRS module assessment
- Crash-event data diagnosis
- Supported crash-data reset/restoration
- Original module data backup
- Software restoration
- Module testing after service
Crash-data work is performed only where the vehicle has been properly repaired and the relevant safety components have been replaced or verified.
Clearing crash data does not repair deployed airbags, damaged pretensioners, sensors, wiring or other physical faults in the restraint system.
Replacement SRS Module Programming
A replacement airbag control module is not always plug-and-play.
Depending on the vehicle, replacement may require:
- Module compatibility assessment
- Programming
- Coding
- Vehicle configuration
- Variant configuration
- Initialisation
- Adaptation
- Synchronisation with other vehicle systems
We determine the required procedure before programming or installing a replacement module.
Airbag & Pretensioner Fault Diagnosis
We diagnose faults involving:
- Driver and passenger airbags
- Side airbags
- Curtain airbags
- Knee airbags where fitted
- Seat-mounted airbags
- Seat-belt pretensioners
- Belt buckle switches
- Crash sensors
- Associated wiring and connectors
Any deployed or physically damaged safety component must be replaced with the correct compatible component.
Occupancy & Passenger Detection Systems
Modern vehicles may use seat occupancy and passenger classification systems to determine airbag operation.
We diagnose:
- Passenger occupancy sensor faults
- Seat recognition faults
- Passenger airbag warning problems
- Seat wiring and connector faults
- Communication problems
- Calibration or initialisation issues where supported
Clock Spring & Steering Wheel SRS Faults
A damaged clock spring or steering wheel wiring can cause an airbag warning light and may also affect steering wheel controls, horn or other functions.
We diagnose the circuit before recommending component replacement.
Wiring & Connector Diagnostics
SRS faults are frequently caused by wiring or connection problems rather than a defective control module.
We diagnose:
- Open circuits
- Short circuits
- High-resistance connections
- Damaged wiring
- Corroded connectors
- Seat wiring faults
- Power supply problems
- Ground faults
- Communication wiring problems
Safety circuits are tested using appropriate diagnostic procedures.
SRS Communication Faults
Airbag control modules communicate with other vehicle systems through the vehicle network.
We diagnose:
- SRS module not communicating
- CAN communication faults
- Power and ground problems
- Network wiring faults
- Gateway communication problems
- Multiple control modules reporting SRS communication faults
SRS Software & Coding
Supported services may include:
- SRS module coding
- Replacement module configuration
- Software restoration
- Module initialisation
- Variant configuration
- Adaptation procedures
- Programming following module replacement
Availability depends on manufacturer, vehicle model, model year and SRS system.
Post-Accident SRS Assessment
After collision repairs, an airbag warning light may remain because the restraint system still contains stored faults or damaged components.
We can diagnose the electronic SRS system to identify remaining problems involving:
- Airbag control module
- Deployed restraint components
- Pretensioners
- Crash sensors
- Occupancy systems
- Wiring and connectors
- Module coding or configuration
- Stored crash-related data
The purpose is to identify what still requires repair before the SRS system can operate correctly.
Diagnosis Before Module Replacement
An SRS fault code does not automatically mean the airbag control module is defective.
Wiring faults, damaged connectors, low voltage, crash sensors, pretensioners, occupancy sensors or communication problems can produce similar symptoms.
We diagnose the system first before recommending control module replacement or programming.
Our Approach
We begin with a complete diagnostic scan and verification of the reported SRS fault.
Depending on the findings, further work may include electrical testing, wiring inspection, live-data analysis, control module assessment, coding or programming.
Once the cause has been identified, we explain what requires repair or replacement before additional work is carried out.
Workshop-Based Service
SRS and airbag diagnostic work is carried out at our workshop.
Vehicles requiring post-accident diagnostics should have the necessary physical collision repairs completed or be in a suitable condition for the restraint system to be properly assessed.
Diagnostic work is charged first. Any replacement components, module repair, crash-data service, programming, coding or additional electrical work is quoted separately based on the findings.
