Engine Diagnostics & Fuel Systems

Modern engine problems are not always caused by the component identified in a fault code. Poor performance, difficult starting, smoke, misfires and fuel system faults can have several possible causes.
Voltcheck Motors provides advanced engine and fuel system diagnostics for petrol and diesel vehicles. We test the relevant systems to identify the root cause before recommending repairs or replacing parts.

What we do

Engine Fault Diagnostics

Advanced diagnosis of engine warning lights and running problems, including:

  • Check engine warning lights
  • Loss of power and limp mode
  • Rough or unstable idle
  • Difficult starting
  • Engine misfires
  • Excessive smoke
  • Poor acceleration
  • Abnormal fuel consumption
  • Intermittent engine faults

Diagnosis may include fault-code analysis, live-data testing, sensor readings, actuator testing and electrical circuit checks.

Fuel System Diagnostics

Diagnosis of petrol and diesel fuel system problems including:

  • Low and high fuel pressure faults
  • Fuel rail pressure problems
  • Pressure sensors and regulators
  • Fuel delivery problems
  • Injector control faults
  • Fuel system electrical faults
  • Difficult starting caused by fuel delivery problems

Injector Diagnostics & Services

We provide on-vehicle injector diagnostics and related services including:

  • Injector correction and balance analysis
  • Injector leak-off / return-flow testing
  • Injector electrical testing
  • Injector wiring and control circuit diagnosis
  • Injector removal and replacement
  • Injector coding and calibration data programming
  • Injector adaptations and relearn procedures

We do not provide internal injector rebuilding or injector bench testing.

Misfire & Rough Running Diagnostics

Misfires and unstable engine operation can be caused by ignition, injection, compression, air supply, sensors, wiring or mechanical problems.

We test the relevant systems to identify the actual cause rather than replacing components based solely on fault codes.

Turbo & Boost Diagnostics

Diagnosis of turbocharger and boost-control problems including:

  • Loss of boost
  • Underboost and overboost
  • Limp mode
  • Boost pressure faults
  • Turbo control problems
  • MAF and MAP sensor faults
  • Vacuum system faults
  • Intake and boost leaks

Smoke testing may be used where required to locate intake and pressure leaks.

Sensors & Actuators

Testing of engine management sensors, actuators and associated electrical circuits, including airflow, pressure, temperature and position sensors, control valves and related wiring.

EGR, DPF & Emissions Faults

Diagnosis of engine-management faults involving:

  • EGR systems
  • DPF operation
  • Differential pressure sensors
  • Exhaust temperature sensors
  • Airflow and boost-related faults
  • Other emissions-related engine management components

We diagnose the underlying cause before recommending cleaning, repair or component replacement.

Compression & Engine Condition Testing

Where an internal engine problem is suspected, additional testing can be carried out to determine whether the fault is electrical, fuel-related or mechanical.

Compression and other engine condition checks may be performed where required.

Typical Problems We Diagnose

  • Engine warning light
  • Loss of power
  • Limp mode
  • Rough idle
  • Difficult starting
  • Engine misfires
  • Excessive smoke
  • Poor acceleration
  • Fuel pressure faults
  • Injector problems
  • Turbo and boost faults
  • EGR and DPF faults
  • Abnormal fuel consumption
  • Intermittent engine problems

Our Diagnostic Approach

We do not replace injectors, sensors, turbochargers or other engine components simply because a fault code identifies that system.

We analyse live data, electrical signals, fuel pressure, injector operation and other relevant measurements to identify the actual cause of the fault.

Once the problem has been confirmed, we explain the findings and recommend the appropriate repair.

Workshop-Based Diagnostics

Engine and fuel system diagnostics are normally carried out at our workshop because accurate diagnosis may require extended testing, cold-start testing or repeated measurements under different operating conditions.

Vehicles with intermittent or cold-start problems may need to be left with us for sufficient diagnostic time.
