ECU & Module Services
Modern vehicles rely on multiple electronic control modules to operate the engine, transmission, body systems, safety systems and other vehicle functions.
Voltcheck Motors provides specialist diagnostics, repair, replacement, cloning, programming and software services for ECUs and other vehicle control modules.
Where possible, we diagnose the original module and vehicle systems before recommending replacement.
What We Do
ECU & Control Module Diagnostics
We diagnose electronic control module faults including:
- ECU communication faults
- Internal module faults
- Power and ground problems
- CAN communication faults
- Corrupted software or data
- Water or electrical damage
- Intermittent module operation
- No-start conditions related to control modules
- Replacement module compatibility problems
A fault code referring to a control module does not automatically mean the module itself is defective. Wiring, power supply, communication networks and other vehicle systems are checked where required.
ECU & Module Repair
Where supported, faulty electronic control modules can be assessed and repaired rather than replaced.
Services may include:
- Electronic fault diagnosis
- Internal circuit assessment
- Connector and communication faults
- Power supply faults
- Data and software recovery
- Repair of supported electronic faults
- Testing after repair
Repair availability depends on the module type and the nature of the failure.
ECU & Module Cloning
When a control module cannot be repaired, data from the original unit may be transferred to a compatible replacement module.
Cloning can retain important vehicle-specific information and may allow a replacement module to operate correctly without replacing other matched vehicle components.
Supported services include:
- ECU cloning
- TCU cloning
- BCM data transfer
- Module data transfer
- EEPROM and FLASH data transfer
- Original module backup
- Donor module preparation
Compatibility is checked before programming.
Replacement & Used Module Programming
Replacement modules often require programming or configuration before they will operate correctly in the vehicle.
We provide programming and configuration for supported new and used control modules, including:
- ECU
- BCM / body control modules
- TCU
- Instrument clusters
- Gateway modules
- SRS modules
- Other supported electronic control units
Depending on the vehicle and module, additional synchronisation, coding or adaptation may be required.
Coding & Configuration
Control modules may require configuration after replacement, repair or software work.
Services include:
- Module coding
- Vehicle configuration
- Variant configuration
- Replacement module setup
- Initialisation procedures
- Adaptations and basic settings
- Supported component synchronisation
Software & Firmware Recovery
A control module may stop communicating or operating correctly following interrupted programming, corrupted software or memory problems.
Where supported, we can perform:
- Software recovery
- Firmware restoration
- EEPROM and FLASH recovery
- Original data backup and restoration
- Recovery after failed programming
- Module reprogramming
Recovery depends on the condition of the module and whether usable data can still be accessed.
Immobiliser & Module Synchronisation
Replacement ECUs and other security-related modules may require synchronisation with the vehicle before the engine can start.
Supported services may include:
- ECU and immobiliser synchronisation
- ECU and BCM synchronisation
- Replacement ECU preparation
- Immobiliser data transfer
- Start-authorisation fault diagnosis
- Module matching after replacement
Availability depends on vehicle manufacturer, model and system.
Instrument Cluster Services
We diagnose and program supported instrument clusters, including:
- Communication faults
- Replacement cluster configuration
- Data transfer
- Coding and adaptation
- Software-related faults
- Synchronisation with other vehicle systems
Bench Programming
Some modules cannot be programmed or recovered through the vehicle diagnostic connector.
Where required, the module can be removed and tested or programmed directly using specialist equipment.
Bench services may include data backup, cloning, software recovery, EEPROM/FLASH programming and preparation of replacement modules.
Our Approach
We do not automatically replace a control module simply because a diagnostic scan reports a module-related fault.
Where required, we first check communication, power supply, grounds, wiring and related vehicle systems to determine whether the module itself is responsible for the problem.
If replacement is required, we assess whether the original data can be transferred to a compatible replacement unit and determine what programming, coding or synchronisation is required.
Workshop & Module Services
Complete vehicles can be booked into our workshop for diagnosis, removal, programming, installation and final testing.
Individual modules can also be accepted for supported bench, cloning and programming services where the required information and compatible replacement unit are available.
